Yep. I’m writing a review for an ice cube tray. I guess this is my life now.
Regarding the standard cube tray, these are the best that I’ve used. I wanted something that wasn’t cheap, rigid plastic like your typical garbage – because we go through a ton of ice, don’t enjoy spending minutes at a time emptying ice out of trays, and because I can’t even count how many of the “standard” cube trays we’ve broken over the years. I also wanted something with a lid, because freezers aren’t always completely sanitary, ya know?
In those regards, these trays get the job done. My one complaint is that you really need to have something sturdy and flat underneath it when transporting it from your water source to the freezer, because the body of the tray is too soft to hold its overall shape. I have 2 of these, and whenever I refill one, I just place it immediately on top of the 2nd (still-frozen) tray and carry them to the freezer in a stack so as not to spill the newly-filled one. If you try to carry it just by hand when full of water, it’ll bend/sag dramatically in the middle and spill everywhere. (The lid, while serviceable, is just designed to keep crap from falling into your ice in the freezer, and is not watertight).
If these came with a rigid plastic (preferably drop-in/removable) frame around the silicone tray to support it after refilling with fresh water, it would be perfect.
