I have owned several brands of nugget ice makers. This is by far the worst. When it worked, it worked as well as any of them. I did the cleanings, and all the suggested maintenance and it seemed to be ok. Then a week ago it started making a thumping sound and water poured out of it. I tried running a cleaning cycle and it leaked water. I think that part of the internal pump must have broken because other ice makers that have failed in the past have not failed as dramatically. If you use distilled water, they should last quite a while. This was a design issue and I am requesting a refund. I’ll update this review once I see how the company responds.

I’ve already replaced the first one now the second one started acting up within 30 days of getting the second one. Amazon said they won’t replace it again. The issue first is sometimes ice gets stopped right before it drops into bin and triggers the infrared sensors that the machine is full and it’s not. The second issue is the machine pump seems to be going out as it half the time says no water when it’s full.

Better than the cubes or half moon ice from freezer. Gave us more room in freezer for food. Easy to use. Great in the RV too! Portable is great, used it at friends party.

Love it. The wife and I recently moved and downgraded the fridge to one without an ice maker. I bought this model for her as she LOVES the sonic style ice, and i drink everything with ice. This has been solid. Perfect ice everytime. Highly recommend.

Make great ice, more than enough for 2 adults, families of 4 and more might want a larger capacity – 40lbs plus. I gave it only 4 stars because it’s still new. If it still works this great after two years I would give it 5stars. At this price point I’m expecting 3 plus years of trouble free service.

If you’ve had an Opal and you’ve troubleshooted and fixed an Opal, you know what the parts are. The NewAir uses very much the same parts and works the same as the Opal. However, the NewAir didn’t break and require any troubleshooting. I was very happy with the purchase and knew that NewAir knew what they were doing in the IceMaking business. Device makes ice and I haven’t turned it off yet and it works just fine. A little bit noisier than the GE Opal, but not by much. Very happy with the purchase.

Creates small, chewable nugget ice just like Sonic ice. Very quiet other than a very dull hum while the compressor is running. It does not auto cycle melted ice to create new unless you open and close the lid which gives the machine a break. DO NOT USE TAP WATER. THE SEDIMENT WILL RUIN IT. USE DISTILLED BOTTLE WATER ONLY.
