The item did not meet my expectations because, although the trays looked EXACTLY like the ones I have now, they were actually smaller. I prefer the larger, normal size ice cubes and would not have ordered them if I knew how small they were.

I personally LOVE ice and often will make decisions on where I want to go eat based on the type of ice they serve with their drinks. Back in February my wife and I moved into our 1st apartment, both coming from homes with freezers with built in ice machines we were faced with what predicament of what to do about our own ice needs. At 1st I would just go down the street to the local gas station and buy a bag of ice for $1.50 but with a bulky ice bag in our freezer and being tired of paying for ice we decided to invest in a couple ice trays. Being rookies in ice cube making we went to our local dollar store and picked up a 2pk for $1 although it made ice I often found myself smashing the trays on the countertops and floor to try and loosen them up. After a month of this abuse they cracked but being the penny pincher I am I felt I could keep using them so I would have sections of broken ice trays strategically placed around my freezer. This just lead to more frustration and lack of ice. So finally I decided to dedicate an afternoon to find the perfect ice tray. Being a student I have a free amazon prime membership so I started here in my search. After reading reviews of probably a dozen+ ice trays I found the Rubbermaid Easy release Ice cube tray. The reviews were just outstanding and I decided to commit and I bought them! Buying these ice trays may be one of the smartest things I have ever done It is the perfect material where it is not that hard plastic that will crack when you try and twist the ice out while at the same time it is not that super soft rubber where you cant even lift it to put it in the freezer without spilling everywhere. When you twist these trays to get the ice out an indescribable feeling consumes you and you just have this satisfaction of knowing that this is how ice trays are supposed to work. I got so much joy with the easy release ice trays I found myself just making ice for the heck it, why? because it is so mesmerizing! The only small problem I have with the trays are the ice cubes them selfs are slightly larger then most so if you are an ice chewer like myself this may be slightly awkward at 1st. just give them a minute or 2 to dissolve into your drink and they are perfect and ready for chewing! if you’re having ice problems I feel bad for you son, I got 99 problems but my trays aint 1!

the trays are not similar to what i had previously purchased a few years ago. the length, width and number of ice cubes is the same but unfortunately it is shorter in depth by 1/4″ which creates a smaller ice-cube volume that i am not a fan of, since it melts quicker in a drink. I inquired by email to the company to see if i could source the old product but have not received response. There is no issue with quality or function, they are just smaller.

I bought a very expensive, “high tech” refrigerator, that does everything but prepare my meals for me (when that model becomes available, I will be the first to buy it!!).
I hardly ever use it’s “high tech” ice maker. However, I had company recently, and they were ice addicts. During dinner (a very fine one, I might add), my friend was drinking a diet coke and just spit it out all over my lovely dinner, table and on me. I truly was horrified! I thought something horrible had happened and I was all prepared to give her the Heimlich maneuver when she said:
“what did you put in this drink…are you trying to poison me?!?”
Well, her fiancé, a braver man then I, tasted her drink. He had a theory and ran right to my high text ice maker. Guess what…the ice was making salts ice?!? Seriously, you lick the ice and it taste so much like salt, if it was colder here now, I could have put the cubes out in the pastures for the cows and horses to lick!
So, we cleaned the ice maker and washed everything down..3 days in a row. I even put in a brand new filter. I bet you can guess what happened next…nothing! I still have a stupid, expensive, “high tech” ice maker that makes salt water! But I digress..
I still have no idea what the problem is, nor do I care… I logged into Amazon and immediately looked for a “real” ice maker…as “low tech” as possible. Also, from a quality company, one such as Rubbermaid.
This product is awesome! The ice comes right out of the tray, practically an ice cube at a time if I wish. It is so easy to clean, and if I am lazy it is safe to put in the dish washer. What more can I ask for??
The only problem I have now has nothing to do with the ice trays. My “high tech” frig has no place to put the trays safely. I had to reorganize all my frozen food and try to make a safe place for the tray so they would not spill.
So, it is my opinion that ice makers are way too much trouble and my next refrigerator won’t have one!! Thanks you Rubbermaid for being there for me in my time of need.

I wasted so much money on multiple brands of the “modern soft silicone trays”, but they all make the ice taste like rubber, even after dozens of uses. Had to go back to the tried and true plastic trays, and these ones are perfectly fine. Just the right amount of twisting to loosen, and cubes are not too small or too large.
